The original that started it all. A sci fi epic unlike anything seen before. The movie that captures you and never lets go. Its the film that sparked a newfound love for sci fi films and ushered in a huge following that still goes strong today. What is that film? Star Wars: A New Hope.
Star Wars: A New Hope is the fourth episode in the Star Wars series but was the first to come out. Confusing as that may sound at the time nobody cared. When that black screen with the endless space popped up and John Williams epic music came on and played for the very first time you could care less what was being said. In all honesty nobody reads the entire thing the first time. You see it and skim over major parts but you are too engrossed by this booming music to care. Then that first scene starts. Oh that first scene. You see the spaceship and you see the doors open and the action starts right then and there. Blaster fire, storm troopers, rebel fighters, robots (well R2 and C3PO) and the big guy himself Vader, its all so amazing the first time that it blows you away. And I saw this in the 90s. It doesn't matter what era you watched it in, it was amazing.
The basic non spoiler story to the first movie is simple. Luke has family, well mom. Mom gets killed. Guy named Ben Kenobi comes and says he can wield the force, a mystical power and gets a lightsaber. With the help of two droids, Han Solo and Chewbacca, they hunt down Darth Vader.
It is the definition of sci fi. Or if not its what you see when you look it up in the dictionary. If you haven't seen this shame on you-its a classic. But don't worry. The best is coming up next.
MY VERDICT: OWN IT
