It's gonna be biblical.

Hello I am the movie encyclopedia and if no one else will see it, I will.

Usually critics get it right most of the time. Usually if they pan a film or give it subpar reviews than it probably is a movie you should avoid unless you got time and netflix. On some occasions though the critics get it wrong and what is pretty much a dud to the critics is a diamond in the rough for others. Terminator Salvation was one of those movies and now its Gerard Butler's new film Law-Abiding Citizen.

As many of you know I am a huge Butler fan. That should be evident from my love of Gamer, 300, Phantom of the Opera and so forth. Something about him screams charisma. He knows he is good looking but relys on his acting instead of his looks to get ahead and honestly I respect him for that. Well Law-Abiding Citizens is a mix of good and bad but more good if you look at it the right way.

Law-Abiding Citizen is one of those movies you just got to watch for the entertainment value. If you go for a realistic and plausable thriller than you have come to the wrong place. This is a revenge film's version of a wet dream. There is blood, gore, scares (first time Ive jumped out of my seat in a theatre in a LONG time), and it pretty much has the brutality of a Saw film or a Hostel film. If gore bothers you than you should not watch this movie.

Butler plays Clyde, an engineer who has a wonderful wife and daughter...for the first two minutes of film, before two men rape and murder them. One of them gets the death penalty and the other one gets off easy because he made a deal with the prosecuter Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx). Nick doesnt want to make this deal but doesnt want to lose his 96% win rate in court. No surprise that Butler freaks out and he than plans his revenge. The rest of the story youll just have to see for yourself.

The movie kept me on edge. The tension was good, a lot of racing around on a tight schedule, and the acting is actually better than I thought. Foxx and Butler have great back and forths and it never feels cheap or cheesy but more clever and a little bit disturbing. The action took me a bit back at first, a lot of people freaked out when they saw some of the kills, but if you know what you are getting into with this movie (Saw/Hostel with good acting) than you will enjoy it and it wont bother you. The score is brilliant, the art and cinematography is well done and the supporting cast does a good job especially Viola Davis and Regina King.

Essentially you are either going to love this film or hate it. If you wanted State of Play than you will hate it. If you wanted no violence or a lot of gore and no language than you will hate it. But if you like The Punisher (2 of course), Dexter and Butler than you will love this movie. I know I did. Ive seen it twice now!

MY VERDICT: OWN IT
