How could you kill a poor, defenseless animal? Angela! You're really starting to piss me off!
Hello I am the movie encyclopedia and if no one else will see it, I will.
Horror movies are most commonly associated with Halloween...heck we even have a slasher series CALLED Halloween. But another popular time (apparently) for horror movies is CHRISTMAS! Yes the time for gifts, love, sharing and fat men in red coats can also be attributed to horror movies. Look at Black Xmas and its remake. And now there is P2, the new release from the guy who made the original The Hills Have Eyes and the french hit film Haute Tension. Although I will say after careful consideration that P2 is more of a thriller than a horror film (despite most people thinking it is)
The ad campaign for this movie in 07 was remarkable and thanks to that we already knew the plot. Its not a complicated one on the surface but once you get into it, it gets pretty deep. Rachel Nichols (from GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra) plays Angela, a corporate ladder climber who is anxious to get home for Christmas. She soon learns she is locked inside the building for the night and the only other person there is a sweet and kind night gaurd named Thomas. But Thomas isnt as sweet and kind as he puts on....
Thats all I'll really say. To give away anymore wouldnt do justice to Wes Bentley's amazing performance. Seriously this guy needs to be in more movies. He is one part Jack Nicholson in the Shining, one part Norman Bates from Psycho and all crazy. He is subtle and not foaming at the mouth evily laughing. He is more subdued crazy. A ticking time bomb of sorts. He alone makes this movie worth watching. Thats good considering this is a two man/woman show with them dominating a good 99.9 % of the film. Nichols does good and unlike most thrillers or horrors she is smart and agile and knows what she's doing. There is no "DONT GO IN THERE"'s in this movie. She acts like any person would.
Its not a great movie or an Oscar winner by any means. But if you like tense thrillers like Red Eye or enjoyed horror/thrillers like Haute Tension then its a good movie. I could name hundreds of movies that are better....but hundreds of thousand that are worse. So if you are in the mood for a thrill check this out.
MY VERDICT: RENT IT
