"Is everyone dead?" "Yeah, in the sense that they all sort of, uh... fell down... and then got up... and started eating each other"

Hello I am the movie encyclopedia and if no one else will see it, I will.

Well as you can tell I have a whole horror theme going on right now. That is because it is nearing Halloween. But for the most part its been Saw movies. Well i decided that I should review my favorite horror film of all time so that those who havent seen it can know how good it really is

Its 2004's Zack Snyder remake of the George A Romero classic Dawn of the Dead.

Dawn of the Dead is Zack Snyder's directorial debut and if you watch this movie you can see why he went on to make great films such as 300 and Watchmen. This is a much more stylized version of the original. The zombies are faster, smarter and more violent. Its pretty gory but not too gory. All the blood and gore is stylized. The films soundtrack totally fits the movie mixing soft jazz to Disturbed and screamo metal depending on the scene. The acting is great with every character differentiating each other and nobody really fades back into the shadows. The detail that went into every scene is amazing and the first ten minutes alone of the film are mind blowing in their scope, intensity and action.

For those of you who dont know the plot here it is. A group of strangers are inside a mall trying to survive a zombie outbreak. The movie takes place over their 29 days in the mall and their eventual escape. Thats really it. Zack Synder (with the exception of Watchmen) likes to take simple and easy plots and make them really epic. Maybe the greatnes of the story is also in part due to James Gunn, who went on to direct Slither, and his dark horrordy (horror comedy) stories. The costumes, FX, CGI, make up and everything too are just so well done.

Overall its probably my favorite horror film to come out and definetly the best horror film in general in the past 20 years. If you like horror films or want something GOOD to watch during Halloween, this is the movie to see. Or the Descent. Both of those are in my top 20

MY VERDICT: Top 20
