Hello I am the movie encyclopedia and if no one else will see it, I will.
I think everyone in their lifetime has one film that they know is a bad movie. A real stinker that lacks everything a good movie should have. But they still bought a copy of it and still watch it frequently even though they know its bad. Thir13en Ghosts is that movie for me. Its a horrible abomination to cinema but for some reason Ive seen it 15+ times and its still engaging and I still get into the movie and its just fun to watch.
Thir13en Ghosts is about Arthur and his family. Arthur is played by the horribly miscasted Tony Shaloub. He is an Emmy award winning, well respected actor and he plays a whiny little grump in this movie. But there is a sweetness and a despair in his role that draws you to him even though he is a grump. Arthur has two kids and had a wife. The wife died in a house fire and the kids and Arthur moved into an apartment and hired an assistant (maid something like that).
Meanwhile Cyrus, played by Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham (what bet did he lose), a ghost trapper and hunter is looking for his twelfth ghost when he is murdered. His partner Dennis (Matthew Lillard...Shaggy...hahaha) is devestated at his loss.
One day Arthur and co learn that they inhereted Cyrus's glass house. They decide to pack up and spend the night there. What they dont realize is the entire Black Zodiac in ghost form is in the basement. Hell then proceeds to break loose.
Its not a good story by any means and leaves chasm sized plot holes and lots of cheesy and useless dialogue and filler. The acting is subpar and overall just shoddy. The sets are bad, there are so many errors in continuity and the special effects are crap. Its too loud and dark and its just painful to watch...
...but in that crappy film is a masterpiece in B movie horror. If you can get past all the things negative Ive said about this movie (like I have) then you will find this to be a cheesy B movie horror cult classic. I love this horrible movie. Its the modern day Plan 9 From Outer Space but its so bad its good. Still its not for everyone
MY VERDICT: RENT IT
