I'm just so glad you learned to play the guitar so good... even without having a sense of smell!

Hello I am the movie encyclopedia and if no one else will see it, I will.
John C Reiley is a great actor. He is most known for (in my circle of friends) playing in Will Farrell's movies Step Brothers and Talladega Nights. He is now pretty famous and recognized as a comic genius for his portrayl of mostly dumb angry characters. But he does it in a way that is quite brilliant and lets remember he is a multi award winning Academy Award nominated actor.

But Walk Hard was HIS film. No Farrell, no playing second fiddle, this was Reiley's chance to be in the spotlight and in the front. And he does a great job at it. Walk Hard spoofs every single music biopic that has come out in recent years. The title is taken from the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line (with plenty of references to Cash), he has a drug period where nobody can understand him (Im Not There Bob Dylan) and he cant smell anything and gets all soulful (Ray Charles biopic)
Reiley plays Dewey Cox, a boy who when he was young accidently killed his brother and decided to learn the blues, and rock, and invented grunge, and metal and gospel and everything else pretty much. Dewey is the equivalent of a music jesus in this movie. And i guess thats part of the humor. He has two wives in the movie played by Kristin Wiig and Jenna Fischer who are both hillarious.
What makes this movie though is the soundtrack. I own the soundtrack and have listened to it a few times through and its still funny. It has a little of everything and its all original and all written just for the movie. It was even nominated for best song at the golden globes and also a grammy. It is some real original stuff.
Its not always super funny though and there have been better Reiley movies but for his big first outing on the big screen as the main comedic role, this is actually a surprisingly good movie.
MY VERDICT: SEE IT
